ORJI KALU is accused of laundering five point six billion naira belonging to Abia State Government while he was in office from 1999 to 2007.
The former governor was due for arraignment today by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, but a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja was told that the arraignment should not hold because of a pending appeal at the Supreme Court.Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that ORJI KALU was represented by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SOLOMON AKU, who urged the court to adjourn the case because of the subsisting appeal filed by his company – Slok Nigeria, which is the third accused person.Ruling on the application; Justice ANWULI CHIKERE, adjourned the case to 30th of June, pending the determination of the appeal at the Supreme Court.Justice CHIKERE made the adjournment with the consent of the prosecution counsel, OLUWALEKE AFOLABI.ORJI UZOR KALU was first arraigned on 27th of July in 2007 before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on multiple charges of money laundering and corruption.The matter has since been moving back and forth from the High Court to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, without any headway.
