The alleged provision of a power generating set to the Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State by the All Progressives Congress for sorting of electoral materials used during the last general elections is a source of controversy.
The APC was granted leave to inspect materials used during the last governorship election by the Justice ABDULKADIR PINDINGA – led Election Petition Tribunal. However, the party reportedly provided a power generator to fast rack the inspection of the electoral materials at INEC office in Port Harcourt which did not go down well with the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
President of PDP-affiliate group, I-SEE-YOU, CHIZI NYEOMASILA accused the APC of attempting to bribe INEC with the attempt to provide a generator for the inspection process last weekend. NYEOMASILA told correspondent LEVI ISU that the attitude of the APC was suspicious and constituted a breach of the law. The PDP stalwart also debunked allegations that the party was controlling INEC in Rivers State. In a reaction, an APC stalwart and former Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, CHIMBIKO AKAROLO accused the PDP of frustrating the efforts of the APC to inspect the electoral materials as directed by the tribunal.
