The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has asked its members and supporters not to be dismayed by the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed its petition and affirmed the election of Governor NYESOM WIKE of the PDP.State Chairman of the APC, Chief DAVIES IBIAMU IKANYA said the party neither applaud nor condemn the decision of the apex court, but will only give thanks and adoration to God Almighty whose wisdom surpasses that of man.According to a statement obtained by our correspondent, IKANYA recalled that the APC had been involved in a struggle to retrieve the mandates of its candidates in the 2015 election. He said the legal battled led to various rulings by the election petition tribunals and the Appeal Courts, nullifying elections for twenty-two State Assembly positions, all three senatorial seats and twelve out of thirteen House of Representatives seats. The party noted that such large-scale annulment should have logically led to upholding the annulment of the governorship election as pronounced by the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. The Rivers APC thanked all its candidates in the race for Senatorial, House of Representatives and Rivers State House of Assembly rerun elections, and urged them to remain steadfast. The party Chairman said whatever appears to be a setback now was only temporary, stressing that the APC will soon re-assert its pride of place in the political milieu of Rivers State and Nigeria.Chief DAVIES IKANYA promised that the APC would continue to play the role of a responsible opposition party in Rivers State by protecting the peoples’ common interests and provide the bridge between Rivers people and the APC-led Federal Government.
