Tenants’ Union Urges Rivers Government to Curb Rising House Rents

The Executive Secretary of the National Union of Tenants of Nigeria (NUTN), Caesar Enwefah, has called on the Rivers State Government to intervene in what he described as the excessive increase in house rents by landlords across the state.

Enwefah urged the government to issue an executive order regulating the steady rise in rent charges by landlords and property agents, saying such action would help ease the economic hardship faced by many residents.

He said the government’s intervention is urgently needed to protect tenants from arbitrary rent hikes and promote affordable housing.

Also speaking, the Rivers State Coordinator of the Union, Bernard Okonkor, expressed concern over the growing rent crisis in the state. He appealed to the government not only to regulate rent prices but also to invest in low-cost housing projects to support low-income earners struggling with accommodation challenges.
