The latest obstacle is coming from a group of concerned lawyers who want the Senate to ignore a purported letter by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice requesting for ETIM to be sworn-in by the Red Chamber.

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that members of the Coalition of Concerned Lawyers from Akwa Ibom State stormed the National Assembly Complex in Abuja today to make their demand.

Leaders of the group also displayed a communiqué jointly signed by twenty of their members when they addressed the Senate Press Corps ahead of resumption of plenary.

They argued that the judgment delivered by Justice F.O. RIMAN of the Federal High Court in Uyo, nullifying the primary election that produced Senator BASSEY ALBERT AKPAN has already been challenged at the Court of Appeal.

The lawyers also disclosed that Senator AKPAN has filed a Motion of Stay of Execution against the judgment, which they equally said had been duly served on all parties.

Following the development, the Coalition of Concern Lawyers from Akwa Ibom State said it was necessary for all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.

The group claimed that there was a subsisting order of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, nullifying the certificate of return which the Independent National Electoral Commission issued to BASSEY ETIM.

However; BASSEY ETIM is yet to respond to the latest obstacle against his swearing in the Senator for Akwa Ibom North Senatorial District.
