Suspected Monkey Pox Patient Commits Suicide in Bayelsa State, as Government Confirms Three Cases

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Commissioner of Health, Professor EBITIMITULA ETEBU during a media briefing in Yenagoa.
Professor ETEBU said the deceased was among twenty-one suspected patients of monkey who were under observation at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri.
The Health Commissioner expressed regret that the patient took his own life despite making speedy recovery from the illness, adding that the medical history of the deceased did not suggest he could have suffered depression.
Although the Commissioner of Health did not give details of the actual manner in which the unnamed patient took his own life, he maintained that he did not die as a result of monkey pox infection.
Professor ETEBU also confirmed that the results of laboratory analysis of samples from the suspected cases which shows that three were actually monkey pox infection.
The Commissioner of Information, DANIEL IWORISO-MARKSON, who was also present at the media briefing, stressed the need for members of the public to observe all the preventive measures to protect themselves against monkey pox virus.
