The Super Falcons of Nigeria have extended a heartfelt message to South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado, who sustained a serious leg injury during their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-final clash on Tuesday evening.
The encounter, held at the Stade Larbi Zaouli, ended in a 2-1 victory for Nigeria, with goals from team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and defender Michelle Alozie sealing a place in the final.
Despite the intensity of the match, the Super Falcons took a moment to show sportsmanship after the game. In a post shared on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, the team expressed concern for Salgado’s wellbeing.
“We wish South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado a swift and full recovery,” the post read. “Health comes first. Strength to you, Gabriela.”
The Super Falcons will now face host nation Morocco in the final on Saturday as they chase their 10th WAFCON title.
