State governors elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party have accused the Federal Government under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress of sliding the country down the path of dictatorship.
The PDP Governors Forum made the observation against the backdrop of the recent search conducted by operatives of the Department of State Security Service on the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo. In a communiqué released at the end of a meeting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the PDP Governors asked the international community and civil society organisations to call the Federal Government to order. Reading the communique before newsmen, the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Ondo State, Doctor OLUSEGUN MIMIKO said it was necessary to raise the alarm to prevent an imminent dictatorship.
Governor MIMIKO said no democracy survives without a viable opposition in any part of the world, adding that the APC should be reminded that it benefited from the liberal democratic ethos of the past PDP government. The PDP Governors advise the DSS to preoccupy itself with the task of ensuring internal security and desist from daily harassing and intimidating members of the opposition.
