The Bill has been referred to the Committee on Establishment and Public Matters, which is also mandated to report back in four weeks.
This comes a week after the SEDC sparked a rancor on the floor of the House of Representatives, and subsequently rejected in a voice vote.
The SEDC Bill sponsored by Senator SAM ANYANWU of the PDP from Imo State, seeks to serve as a catalyst for the development of the commercial potentials of the South-East geopolitical zone.
In his presentation, Senator ANYANWU said the establishment of the proposed South East Development Commission would help tackle infrastructural deficit and engage youths in the region in productive ventures.
Making contributions in support of the Bill, the Deputy Senate President IKE EKWEREMADU encouraged the Senate to look at the proposal from its usual bi-partisan and patriotic viewpoint.
In his remarks, the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI maintained that the unity and development of the nation goes sometimes beyond just a Bill.
