Reports say PRAVIN GORDHAN could be arrested any moment in relation to an alleged rogue unit at the state tax revenue service.
The Treasury Department said GORDHAN has been contacted by the elite police unit, and he is expected to report to the Hawks on Thursday.
The man is widely regarded in the markets as a safe pair of hands, and suggestion of removing him from the Treasury forced the Rand to crash by up to three percent.
GORDHAN had back in May been linked to speculation of espionage charges over an investigation unit that was set up at the South African Revenue Service when he was in charge of the tax collection agency several years ago.
