South African sudents threaten to make country ungovernable if demand for free education is not met this week.

The main student leader at the prestigious University of Witwatersrand is threatening that students will make the country ungovernable if their demand for free education is not met this week.

The warning by the leader of the Students Representative Council, KEFENTSE MKHARI came after violent protests broke out in the commercial capital, Johannesburg, last week.

Trouble started after the government proposed to increase tuition fees by up to eight percent next year.

Many students have been detained following clashes with security operatives.
