Some military personnel have been called before the Rivers State Governorship Election tribunal sitting in Abuja to give evidence in the petition filed by the APC and its governorship candidate, DAKUKU PETERSIDE.At the resumed hearing today, a captain of the Nigerian Army told the court that he appeared following a subpoena at the instance of the Chief of Army Staff. The army officer narrated how the electoral process was marred by political thugs through violence and election materials carted away.Speaking under cross extermination, the Army Captain said there was no collation of result in Abua-Odul Local Government Area because of disruption of the election process. He said efforts to save the situation and arrest the perpetrators were not successful, as such disruptions were mostly carried out before security operatives arrived at the scene.Another officer identified as Captain FRED NOAH BALA said he was deployed to Andoni Local Government Area.As at the time of filing this report; Captain BALA told the tribunal that he observed the distribution of materials by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He however said the materials did not get to the polling centres because they were hijacked by thugs and hoodlums.Captain BALA said he did not personally witness the hijacking of materials, but confirmed the situation based on reports by ad-hoc electoral officials recruited by INEC.
