Slot Blames Inexperience for Liverpool’s 4-2 Defeat to AC Milan

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said that his team’s lack of experience was a major factor in their 4-2 loss to AC Milan in a pre-season friendly match in Hong Kong.

Slot explained that with seven senior players unavailable, several players had to play out of position, which made the team vulnerable, especially on counter-attacks. He said the squad’s inexperience showed in key moments of the game, leading to defensive lapses.

AC Milan took the lead through Rafael Leão in the 10th minute, but Liverpool equalised with a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai. Milan regained control in the second half with goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Noah Okafor, who scored twice. Cody Gakpo scored a late consolation goal for Liverpool.

Despite Liverpool dominating possession and creating more chances, their defence was exposed by Milan’s quick transitions. Slot admitted the team lacked cohesion but said the match was a good opportunity to give playing time to younger and fringe players.

Liverpool will continue their pre-season tour in Japan before starting their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on August 15.
