Addressing the taskforce chaired by the Assistance Commissioner of Police in charge of Operatives, VALENTINE OLUMESE, CP MUSTAPHA charged the committee to ensure that all hotels including guest houses across the state comply with set standards, such as the installation of CCTV cameras and proper documentation of guest and customers, threatening that any of them that fails to comply would be closed down.
The Commissioner blamed the increased number of young women killed in hotels to non-compliance of of hotel by hotel owners with standard, adding that the number of murders would not have risen to nine if the hoteliers had complied with earlier directives.
CP MUSTAPHA revealed that the prime suspect in the killing of the young women has confessed that he has killed about fifteen young women in different parts of the country including nine in Rivers State.
The Chairman of Nigeria Hotel Association, EUGENE NWAUZI and the chairman of the special taskforce, ACP, VALENTINE OLUMESE however commended the efforts of the CP on the security of lives and properties.
Correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the special taskforce is made up twelve members with four coming from the police, four from Nigeria Hotel Association, three from Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and one representing Department of Security Service, DSS.
