The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission, seeking an order compelling the commission to investigate allegations that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress diverted about ₦800 billion from Federation Account Allocation Committee allocations for political activities.
According to SERAP, reports alleged that the governors made monthly deductions from their FAAC allocations into a fund intended to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The organisation is asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to direct INEC to determine whether any electoral laws were violated and compel full disclosure of all campaign-related contributions, including the identities of donors and the sources of the funds.
