Senate to meet with President Buhari over insecurity in the country

Justice Dongban-Mensem was confirmed after a report of the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who said no petition was received against her nomination.

The National Assembly also resolved to urgently meet President Muhammadu Buhari and the Service Chiefs over the increasing rate of insecurity across the country.

The Senate took the decision following a point of order raised by Senator Abubakar Kyari of Borno North Senatorial District, on the massacre of over 80 people in Gubio.

While urging the Federal Government to implement the Senate committee’s recommendations on the restructuring of the security architecture of the country to enhance efficiency, the Senate asked the Federal Government to direct the Army and other agencies to ensure safety around the shores of Lake Chad.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan said any of the service chiefs who failed to perform up to expectations, even with adequate provisions, should be sacked.
