Senate to investigate alleged sharp practices in collection of internally generated revenue.

The Senate probe will cover collection, accounting, remittance and expenditure of all revenue generating agencies from 2012 to 2016.

The Senate also resolved to set up an ad hoc committee headed by Senator SOLOMON ADEOLA to conduct the investigation, with Senators ANDY UBA, JOHN ENOH, YUSUF ABUBAKAR, YAHAYA ABDULAHI and FATIMAT RASAKI as members.

This was part of the outcome of proceedings in the Senate plenary today, which was discussed based on a motion sponsored by Senator SOLOMON ADEOLA from Lagos West.

In the motion entitled “Urgent Need to Investigate Revenue Generating Agencies for Leakages, Non-Remittance and Misuse of Revenue”, Senator ADEOLA expressed worry that government agencies have over the years acted in violation of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.

In his remarks, Senate President BUKOLA SARAKI, said non oil revenue is very important, stressing that the relevant agencies were not meeting their targets.
