Senate suspends Ali Ndume.

Senator NDUME’s suspension followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges on the investigation of allegations against the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI and Senator DINO MELAYE of Kogi West.

Both Senator SARAKI and Senator MELAYE had been accused of various allegations in connection with the faceoff between the Senate and the Nigerian Customs Service.

Senator MELAYE was accused of falsifying his academic records from the Ahmadu Bello University.

It was Senator NDUME who raised the issues on the floor of the Senate in plenary and called for investigation on grounds of infringement on his privilege.

A day after concluding its investigation; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Senator SAMUEL ANYANWU submitted a report that indicted Senator NDUME and recommended his suspension for one hundred and ninety-one legislative days.

Senator ANYANWU noted that statements obtained from Senator NDUME on the allegations were not in alignment with testimonies by the Vice Chancellor of ABU and the car dealer behind the vehicle impounded by the customs.

With the Deputy Senate President, IKE EKWEREMADU presiding, the Senate adopted the report, together with its recommendation to suspend Senator NDUME.

The Senate resolved that Senator NDUME did not conduct proper investigations before bringing the issue of the allegations against the Senator SARAKi and Senator MELAYE on the floor.
