The Senate also threatened to suspend plenary indefinitely if INEC failed to meet its deadline by ensuring that people of all constituencies across the country are adequately represented in government.
The resolution was based on a Point of Order raided by the Deputy Senate President, IKE EKWEREMADU, who made specific reference to the pending national and state legislative rerun elections in Rivers State.
Senator EKEREMADU who is of the PDP from Enugu State said the absence of representatives for Rivers people was in violation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that Senator EKWERENMADU’s Point of Order was supported by the Senate Leader, ALI NDUME who is of the APC from Borno State.
Senator NDUME lamented that the Senate was about to commence deliberations on the Petroleum Industry Bill without any senator from Rivers State, which is a major oil producing state.
The APC Senator condemned the new leadership of INEC for recording series of inconclusive elections and sometimes confusion in the election process.
The House of Representatives had yesterday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct all pending rerun elections in Rivers and Anambra states.
