The Nigerian Senate has resolved to go ahead with the screening of the nominees without names from Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Ondo and Plateau states.
An investigation by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs found that no candidate from the four states met the criteria for appointment as career ambassador.
However; the Senate Committee urged President MUHAMMADU BUHARI to immediately send the names of non-career ambassadors to balance the spread of nominations across the states of the federation.
The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator SHEHU SANI, said all forty-seven ambassadorial nominees sent to the Senate for confirmation were meticulously selected.
The Senator said the selection was based on federal character, seniority, gender consideration, specialist relevance, and competence.
He said only a few of them have between eighteen and twenty-nine months remaining before their retirement from service.
