The call was made based on the adoption of a motion that was raised under ‘Matters of Urgent National Importance’.
The sponsor of the motion, Senator BABA KAKA who represents Borno Central, criticized the Borno State Government for not providing enough funds to address the problem of malnutrition.
Senator KAKA complained about the increasing cases of malnutrition in IDP camps, adding that states in the North East have been carrying too much of the burden alone.
The Borno State Senator stressed the need for the private sector and wealthy individuals to support efforts to provide for the well being of displaced persons in the insurgency-ravaged region.
In his contribution, the Senate Leader, ALI NDUME called on the Federal Government to step up support for states in the North-East.
In his remarks; the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI, promised that the Senate would do its best to play a supportive role to states that are battling with malnutrition.
Senator SARAKI further observed that women and children are the most affected by the malnutrition crisis.
