The Senators made the call during the debate on a motion raised by Senator FOLARIN TESLIM of Oyo Central Senatorial District; asking for a Law to regulate the movement of tankers on Federal highways to reduce accidents.
The Senators during the debate said there has to be holistic approach to ending road accidents including ; expansion of federal highways, provision of Lay-bys and rest places, placement of visible road signs, improve and encourage rail transportation of cargos, strengthening road agencies.
Senate President, AHMED LAWAN in his resolution referred the amended motion to the Senate Committee on Transport for further action.
The Senate also urged President MUHAMMADU BUHARI to immediately reconstitute the Federal Character Commission in line with extant laws.
The call followed a motion sponsored by the Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator ENYINNAYA ABARIBE, on the urgent need to reconstitute the Federal Character Commission.
