Senate Approves Cautious Removal of Bumps Impeding Traffic on Federal Roads

The Senate also directed the Ministry to standardize and regulate the construction of speed bumps on federal roads nationwide to reduce road accidents caused by over speeding.
The directive followed a motion jointly sponsored by Senator BARNABAS GEMADE and Senator STELLA ODUAH, who frowned at the rate which speed bumps are erected on roads running across communities, as well as others mounted by owners of petrol filling stations and private homes located on the highways.
Other lawmakers who did not buy the idea completely, called for speed limit mechanism to avoid unnecessary road crashes due to over speeding.
In his ruling, the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI, expressed concern that the danger inherent in removing the speed breakers requires enforcement of measures to check excessive speeding by motorists.
