BERNARD MUNYAGISHARI was in charge of the Interahamwe Hutu militia in western Rwanda and was convicted of genocide and crimes against humanity.
Judge TIMOTHEE KANYEGERI said the convict had trained the militia to distinguish between Hutus and Tutsis and told them that to kill, but the defence lawyer has said they would appeal against the ruling.
You would recall that the some eight hundred thousand people, mainly Tutsis and moderate Hutus, were killed in the Rwandan genocide that lasted for a period of one hundred days twenty-three years ago.
