Residents of Rumuekpe community in Rivers State have criticised the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Chidi Lloyd, over alleged commissioning of electricity poles without actual power supply.
Community members said they have lived in darkness for years despite the recent installation and commissioning of electricity poles by the council leadership. They claimed the project has not translated into actual electricity supply, describing the development as disappointing.
The residents also alleged that a road project awarded by the Rivers State Government has been abandoned, leaving the road in poor condition and affecting movement and economic activities in the area.
They further accused their representative in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Justina Emeji, of failing to attract meaningful development projects to the community.
The people also lamented the absence of adequate healthcare facilities in the area, recalling a recent incident in which a mother and her baby reportedly died during childbirth due to lack of timely medical attention.
The eldest man in the community, Elder Ambrose Ogbule, said both the council chairman and the state lawmaker had allegedly neglected development needs in Rumuekpe community.
When contacted, the chairman of Emohua Local Government Area declined comment on the allegations.
