The Rivers State University (RSU) has taken decisive action following a series of thefts reported in several student hostels, including the NDDC Hostel and Hostels C, F, and H.
As part of its immediate response, the university has directed the construction of a security post in front of Hostel C. Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, also announced the deployment of additional security personnel around the affected areas and the installation of protective gadgets near the drainage close to Hostel C.
The Vice Chancellor further instructed hostel porters to maintain strict vigilance and screen all visitors entering the hostels.
In the latest development, RSU confirmed that two students have been arrested in connection with the theft cases. According to a statement from the university’s Registrar, I. B. S. Harry, a female student in Hostel C was apprehended for stealing money and clothing, while a male student in Hostel F was caught in possession of a stolen laptop.
The registrar disclosed that both students have been evicted from the hostels, handed over to their parents, and will face the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and appropriate sanctions.
She also praised the swift response of the university’s Security Unit and assured students and staff that both internal security personnel and external agencies are working closely to maintain safety on campus.
