You will recall that part of the resolutions at the meeting called by the Director General of the Department of State Service and the Acting Inspector General of Police was for a follow-up meeting to be convened in Port Harcourt by Governor WIKE and his predecessor and Minister of Transport, ROTIMI AMAECHI.
A day after the Abuja meeting with the security chiefs and APC chieftains from Rivers State; Governor WIKE told crowds of PDP supporters during a rally in Degema that his administration will sincerely implement the resolutions of the peace meeting to ensure peaceful conduct of rerun elections in the state.
Governor WIKE declared that he willingly participated in the peace meeting because of his commitment to peace and the need to make sacrifices for the development of Rivers State.
However; the State Governor emphasized that Rivers people must be allowed to elect representatives of their choice to the National and State legislatures.
According to a statement released by the Government House in Port Harcourt; Governor WIKE expressed sadness that some politicians were celebrating the postponement of the elections.
He lamented that Rivers people have shut out on deliberations of the Petroleum Industry Bill and other legislation in the National Assembly because of lack of representatives from the state.
