The students who expressed shock over continuous robbery incidents in their hostels, told Todayfm’s Sandra Kenneth that the recent incident occurred last week.
The students further appealed to the state government to intervene and solve the issue of insecurity.
Recall that the female students had staged a protest on campus, over the invasion of their hostels by armed criminals.
It was gathered that the criminals who were armed with guns and machetes, reportedly stormed a female hostel and sexually harassed two students.
Meanwhile; the Rivers State Police Command says it has received a report of an armed robbery attack on a female hostel at the Rivers State University.
The command Public Relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement, said following the report, the commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka has directed the Deputy Commissioner of police in charge of Operations, Area Commander, Port Harcourt, and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Nkpolu to provide adequate security on the campus.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police also urged students, parents, and the school management to take advantage of the Police Control Room and report suspicious activities on 08032003514 and 08098880134.
