Three towns in each of the local government areas, made up of Opobo, Nkoro, Kalaibiama, Abonnema, Kula and Abissa are to host to the projects.
However; ahead of the deadline of 30th September, the Rivers State Government is yet to commit the twenty-five percent counterpart funding required for the take-off of the projects under the European Union-Niger Delta Support Programme.
In view of the development; the Sustainable Development Goals Ambassadors of Africa is calling on the Rivers State Government to act fast to kick-start the EU funded water and sanitation projects.
GODSPOWER IGWE who is the Nigerian Member of the group reminded Governor NYESOM WIKE of his promise not to abandon any project that has direct impact on the life of Rivers people.
IGWE said the counterpart fund demanded of the Rivers State Government for the EU-funded projects is two hundred million naira.
He warned that jobs would be lost while health and sanitation further deteriorate in rural communities in Opobo-Nkoro and Akuku-Toru, just as the EU would lose confidence in the state if the intervention programme is allowed to slip out of hand.
He noted that Cross River, Delta and Akwa Ibom State governments have provided their counterpart funding to benefit from the European Union-Niger Delta Support Programme.
