The model schools security guards have been having a running battle with the contractor that was hired by the state government for their recruitment over a backlog of unpaid wages.
Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR has visited some of the schools around Port Harcourt this morning and reports that the security guards have locked the gates against the pupils and their teachers.
The stranded teachers and pupils were seen loitering around the schools, while an attempt by some persons to overpower the security guards at Apara Model Primary School in Obio-Akpor Local Government Areas was greeted with stiff resistance.
The spokesman for the security guards GODSWILL NWUKE complained that the state government and their contractor failed to keep their promise to pay their outstanding four months’ salary.
On his part; the security contractor of the Model Primary Schools, CHIJIOKE TASIE expressed regret that about the action by the security guards.
