A Port Harcourt-based lawyer, CHIMA AGUMA, has expressed confidence that it will be difficult for any court to nullify the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State. He cited the legal framework and the timeframe of the elections as key reasons supporting his stance.
Aguma stated that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) fulfilled all the necessary criteria outlined for the conduct of the elections. He emphasized that no part of the Nigerian constitution was breached by RSIEC or the acting administrator of Rivers State in the organization and execution of last Saturday’s polls.
Reflecting on past elections, Aguma the son of the late former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, EMMA AGUMA, SAN — pointed out that the October 5th, 2024 local government elections, which were conducted under the suspended RSIEC management led by retired Justice ADOLPHUS ENEBELI, fell short of legal standards.
He concluded that the recent elections in Rivers State stand on solid legal ground and are unlikely to be challenged successfully in court.
