Rivers police rescue kidnap victim

The victim was said to have been shot thrice by his abductors.

The State Commissioner of Police, Oluntuji Disu who briefed newsmen at the Command Headquarters said operatives of the C4I intelligence unit also arrested one of the suspects who sustained bulletin wound.

CP Disu revealed that the kidnapped victim is a popular hotelier, whose family had paid twenty -five million naira in hard currency to the kidnappers for his release.

He explained that during the rescue operation at Agbonchia forest at Eleme Local Government Area of the state, one of the kidnappers got shot during a gun battle with the Police, assuring that others will be trailed and arrested.

On his part, the kidnap victim who spoke in anonymity, narrated to Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor in hospital bed how he was kidnapped and shot before the intervention of the police.

 

Two vehicles and one AK47 with rounds of ammunition were recovered in the operation.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu has emphasized the need for a consistent synergy between the police and hoteliers in the state.

CP DISU said the synergy between hoteliers and police can never be over emphasized, as the collaboration would help reduced crimes perpetrated at hotels space to the barest minimum.

The CP who made the statement during a roundtable meeting with members of the Rivers State Hotel Association led by the state president, Eugene Nwauzi, said the collaboration if ensured will bring back night life and also boost tourism.

Speaking at the sideline of the event on the outcome of the meeting, president of Rivers State Hotel Association, Nwauzi in an interview with Today FM’s Olawale Sanusi, explained that the roundtable meeting with the police is a way of familiarizing with the new CP and to work towards a possible collaboration.

He added that they would do everything possible to ensure the lives of their customers are well protected.
