Reacting to media reports about a protest to the Police Command Headquarters by the people of Barako community, the Police Public Relations Officer, NNAMDI OMONI said the information contained in the reports were speculative.
OMONI, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the story is not only disturbing but embarrassing to the State Police Command.
The PPRO said the Police cannot be said to embark on a peace talk and then kill somebody coming to make peace.
According to the Command spokesman, late Chief LEVI NDORBU KORGBARA was never invited by the police for peace talks.
DSP OMONI claims that the Barako paramount ruler had attended a marriage ceremony in his community and was attacked and killed within his community, and not on his way to the Police Station.
However; Saturday Punch reports that Chief LEVI NDORBU KORGBARA was shot dead by unknown gunmen last Friday afternoon while going to the Police Divisional Headquarters at Kpor in response to an alleged invitation by the Divisional Police Officer.
During the protest to the Command Headquarters on Saturday, the spokesman for the community, KIMANYIEKE KESIOP, was quoted as saying the Barako people were not happy with the circumstance surrounding the murder of their chief.
