The Rivers State Government now has its 2026 budget to work with following Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s signing of the appropriation bill into law.
The Rivers State House of Assembly passed the budget on Thursday after 54 days of legislative scrutiny.
Speaking after signing the document, Governor Fubara said the 2026 budget was designed to drive development across the state and improve the welfare of residents.
He assured the lawmakers and people of Rivers State that its implementation would focus on projects and programmes capable of delivering meaningful development across the state.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, said the lawmakers were not satisfied with the budget in its present form.
Amaewhule said the House had raised concerns over some provisions that needed to be addressed.
He specifically cited the 4.6 billion naira deducted from the allocation to Pamo University, owned by former Governor Peter Odili.
The Speaker also called for unity among the political class, saying the time had come for political leaders to work together in the interest of Rivers State and its people.
Governor Fubara had on July 10 presented a budget proposal of about 1.84 trillion naira for the 2026 fiscal year to the state lawmakers.
