Rivers farmers, CBN differ on benefit of anchor borrowers progrmme

Farmers in Rivers State, who said the mandate of the ABP through the CBN is to provide seed to farmers, provision of farm inputs in kind and cash to boost production of commodities, revealed that the impact has not been felt since inception of the project.

Reacting to report that CBN has not been doing enough to support Rivers farmers through the programme, a staff of the apex bank in Rivers state who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said about seventeen thousand farmers across the country have benefited from the programme, while farmers in Rivers State and the Niger Delta have not, due to lack of capacity.

Today fm’s source who also explained that one of the requirements to access the loans is to have an available cleared farmland of about one hectare, stressed that farmers in the south south do not have the resources to clear their farmlands, unless with the support of their state governments.
