Rivers Emergency Rule Has Suspended Many Provisions, Says OCJ Okocha

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, OCJ Okocha, has described the current situation in Rivers State as far from normal, noting that the State of Emergency imposed on the state has set aside several existing provisions.

Reacting to the suspension of sections of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) law to allow Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, to conduct local government elections, Okocha urged residents unhappy with the development to let go in the interest of peace and the state’s growth.

He maintained that whether certain actions were taken before the gazette or not should no longer be a concern. On criticisms over the one-month notice for the August 30 elections, Okocha reminded the public that the sacked RSIEC management, led by retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, had already set the process in motion before leaving office.
