Our correspondent who traveled with members of the Amnesty Committee to Rundele community reports that the recovered items include eighteen locally-made guns and pistols, as well as axes and daggers.
The weapons were handed over by members of Deybam and Iceland cult groups who decided to embrace the amnesty offer of Governor NYESOM WIKE.
However; there was no sign of the sophisticated military-grade firearms that are thought to be in the hands of militants and criminal gangs operating in parts of Rivers State.
One VICTOR OMENIHU, who spoke on behalf of the Iceland cult gang, said amnesty offer signifies unity that would bring about development in the area.
On his part, the leader of Deybam cultist, OKANNA URCHMAN called on inhabitants of communities who had fled their homes because of cult violence to return.
Members of the Rivers State Amnesty Programme Committee were led by their Chairman, KENNETH CHINDA who doubles as the Special Adviser to Governor on Amnesty.
The filed operation by the Amnesty Committee continues tomorrow, with a visit to Ahoada axis.
