Rights Activist Demands Handover of Alleged Rape Suspect to Police

A rights activist, Prince Wiro, has called on youth leaders in Rumuomoi community to immediately hand over an alleged rape suspect to the police.

Prince Wiro said the suspect was arrested following reports from neighbours accusing him of sexually assaulting a young girl.

He argued that it was inappropriate for the youth body to continue detaining or investigating the suspect, insisting that sexual assault cases should be handled by the police and other lawful authorities.

The National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign also urged the Divisional Police Officer of Rumupeirikom Police Division to intervene and ensure the suspect is transferred to the proper authorities for investigation.
