Some of the respondents, particularly those residing directly opposite the university campus, said they could not understand how the bandits are able to rob them repeatedly without being challenged by police personnel at the Rumuolumeni Divisional Police Headquarters within the neighbourhood.
Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR visited the area earlier today after another robbery attack on the hostels last night that left many of the students injured.
Some of the students who sustained machete cuts and others whose doors and windows were broken by the hoodlums called on government to investigate the police for always ignoring their distress calls.
Other students complained that the regular raids by armed bandits on their apartments were affecting their academic performance, since they are often dispossessed of their tools.
Also confirming the incident in an interview with our correspondent, one of the landlords who does not want his name mentioned for fear of being attacked, accused the security operatives of not doing enough to protect residents of the area.
When our correspondent contacted the spokesman of Rivers State Police Command, DSP NNAMDI OMONI to respond to the allegations, he condemned the incident and promise to get to the root of the allegations.
DSP OMONI said any police personal who is found to have refused to discharge his responsibility would be made to face the punishment.
