Speaking in an interview with Today FM’s Odinakachi Celestine, the residents first commended the Rivers State Government for initiating the smart city project, which they believe will address the housing deficit in the state and dispel the notion that Rivers State is a one-city state.
They described the project as a welcome development that would attract investment to other parts of the state, and boost the state’s GDP.
However, they urged the government to ensure proper documentation, and fair compensation of land owners, ensuring that the project is completed and not abandoned like the Greater Port Harcourt City conceived by the last two administrations.
The residents also asked the state government to replicate the same developmental project in other LGAs.
Recall that on August 24th, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, flagged off the construction of the new Mega Smart Port City in Eleme Local Government Area.
