The call was made on the backdrop of a new Law in existent in Anambra state, South-East Nigeria that mandates burial activities void of ceremonies and fanfare.
Speaking in an interview with correspondent ROSEMARY NWAOBASI some respondents said there should be Law that discourages unnecessary show of wealth during burials, while others called for caution in making such Laws so it does not impede on age-long traditions.
In Anambra state, the thirty-item Law stipulates that a corpse must not be deposited in the mortuary or any other place beyond two months from the date of death, no person must erect any billboard, banner or posters of any kind of deceased persons in the State, there must be no overnight wake keep, provision of food and drink is not compulsory, a ban on distribution of souvenirs, no more public display of caskets and so on.
