The development follows a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by House member RAPHAEL IGBOKWE which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.
IGBOKWE told the House that the situation had caused untold psychological pain to members of ISA’s family, stressing that something must be done to check the trend which poses potential threat to the peace and unity of the country.
The House Committees on Women Affairs and Human Rights was asked to investigate the matter and report back in four weeks.
Meanwhile the Federal Government has announced plans to launch a national campaign to end child marriage in 2016.
The Director of Women and Gender Affairs at the Ministry of Women Affairs, ESTHER MSHELIA, announced the plan at a meeting organized by the Ministry to sensitise those responsible for child protection at the state level.
She said the launch would help mobilize support to end the upsurge in early child marriages and also address barriers to prosecution of culprits.
