The Speaker of the House, YAKUBU DOGARA, set the tone for what to expect when he flagged off a public hearing by the House Committee on Electoral and Political Parties’ Matters.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that Committee, headed by AISHATU JIBRIL DUKKU, is charged with the mandate of examining twelve bills for amendments to the Electoral Act.
The bills cover legal framework for electronic accreditation, use of card reader; electronic voting and electronic collation and announcement of election results.
The Speaker also charged the committee to look into the issue of Diaspora voting and the role of political parties in the nomination process; which are all expected to be concluded and the bills passed and assented before the 2019 general elections.
