The decision was reached following a motion under ‘Matters of Urgent National Importance’ which was moved by a member of the House, GABRIEL KOLAWOLE from Ondo State.
KOLAWOLE noted that a London-based firm that gathers intelligence on crime, reports that Nigeria was now seen as the kidnapping capital of the world.
He said a report by the group indicates that kidnapping has risen from four hundred and seventy-five reported cases in 2011 to over one thousand, five hundred kidnap cases annually.
Our Correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the motion was well supported by members of the House.
It was thereafter referred to the House Committee on Legislative Compliance which is to report back in three weeks.
