REM Raises Concern Over Closed Governance System

National President of the Rivers Emancipation Movement, Zoe Solomon Tamunotonye, has raised concerns over the lack of civic engagement among citizens in the state. He warned that a closed system of governance, combined with a passive population, could encourage impunity and weaken democratic accountability.

Tamunotonye challenged the Rivers State House of Assembly to make public its criteria for screening candidates, arguing that recent actions appeared to be driven more by politics than due process. He also criticized what he described as governance shortcomings and urged citizens, particularly youths, to become more actively involved in civic activities.
