Jolidee Matongo had been campaigning with Ramaphosa before the accident.
His vehicle was said to have collided with a van while trying to avoid a pedestrian who had run on to the road killing the pedestrian and the other vehicle’s driver.
Matongo became mayor on August 10 following the death of his predecessor from Covid complications.
