Akandu in an interview with Today FM’s Olawale Sanusi blamed both the state and the Federal Government for the continued sharp increase in the price of rice before and during the festive period.
He said currently there is nothing the government can do to beat down the prices of rice as it is late already.
He added that the only feasible solution to beat down the price of rice during the festive period is for the state government to buy and resell rice to the public at a subsidized rate.
Akandu further appealed to the Rivers state ministry of agriculture and the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to start planning how to boost food production in 2024.
