President BUHARI, who is on an official visit to Turkey, observed that the friendly relations between the two countries has grown in leaps and bounds over the years.
President BUHARI made the remarks after laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Turkey’s founding father, MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK.
The Nigerian leader said he was looking forward to a more fruitful cooperation between Nigeria and Turkey in the areas of mutual concern and interests, for the benefit of people of the two countries.President BUHARI later moved to Ankara for a meeting with the Speaker of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, ISMAIL KAHRAMAN, where he paid glowing tributes to the international media on the coverage of the failed coup of July last year.
President BUHARI equally expressed the hope that Turkey’s assumption of the Chairmanship of the D-8 today, will afford both countries the opportunity to work together on economic, security and political issues.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, GARBA SHEHU, disclosed in a statement that President BUHARI also made an unscheduled appearance at the Turkish Parliament in session.
President BUHARI also held talks with his counterpart, RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN where they agreed to strengthen cooperation between the security agencies of both countries to counter terrorism.
Meanwhile; the ninth D-Eight summit opens today in Istanbul, which also marks the twentieth anniversary of the Developing-Eight.
