President Muhammadu Buhari Requests Further Adjustment of 2017 Budget

President BUHARI’s request was contained in a letter to the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI which was read during plenary.
However; the content of the letter did not go down well with some of the lawmakers who complained that not much has been done by the executive in the disbarment of funds for capital projects in the budget.
The Deputy Senate President, IKE EKWEREMADU, argued that the budget adjustment was illegal because it has no place in the constitution.
Senator EKWEREMADU said the President should rather send a supplementary budget to request additional funds for government projects.
Meanwhile; the Senate also received a report from its Committee on Appropriation based on interaction with the Ministers of Finances, as well as Budget and National Planning on Tuesday.
The report of the Chairman of the Committee headed by Senator DANJUMA GOJE cautioned the Executive against selective implementation of projects, among other observations.
Furthermore; Senator SARAKI noted that there was no pending request from the Executive for approval of foreign loan.
