President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has vowed that those who distorted the 2016 Budget of the Federal Government will be severely punished.
President BUHARI made the vow in far away Riyadh in Saudi Arabia following his trip on Monday to discuss with the authorities in that country on how to stabilize the price of crude oil in the international market.President BUHARI said National Budget will face the most severe punishment for the padding discovered in the Budget.The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA disclosed in a statement that President BUHARI made the vow during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Community in Saudi Arabia.President BUHARI blamed what he described as entrenched interests for the distortion of the financial proposals.He said unauthorised alterations had completely changed the document from the one he presented to the National Assembly.BUHARI recalled that he had been a military governor, a petroleum minister, a military Head of State and headed the Petroleum Trust Fund, but had never heard the words “budget padding”.The President said the Minister of Budget and National Planning did a great job with his team, but regretted that what the minister and his team put together was not what was finally sent to the National Assembly.He described that development as embarrassing and disappointing, threatening that those responsible will not go unpunished.The President also assured members of the Nigerian community in Saudi Arabia that his administration was working diligently to fulfill its campaign promises, particularly on security, unemployment, and fight against corruption.President BUHARI is also expected to visit Qatar in continue of his mission to reach out to other member states of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries on the need to stabilize the price of oil, and also promote business opportunities that abound in Nigeria to boost the economy.The President is also scheduled to stopover in Mecca and Medina for prayers, before returning home with his entourage on Sunday.
